Termites are often called “the silent destroyer” because they hide and thrive within your home without showing any immediate signs of damage. These bugs have been known to do over $30 billion in damage annually, destroying homes and property around the world. There are approximately 45 species of termites in the U.S. and about 2,300 species worldwide. In the U.S. subterranean termites cause more damage than dry-wood or damp-wood termites. Formosan termites, a type of subterranean termite, cause the most amount of damage around the nation. Luckily we don’t have Formosans in Maryland but their cousins, the Eastern Subterranean termites, do plenty of damage to homes in our area. But how can you protect your home from a termite infestation?
